Do you know what events, designers and gems contributed to designs of jewellery of past eras. Join Karen Howard as she takes us on a brief walk through jewellery from Georgian times through 1930's. 

Karen Howard is owner of KC Appraisals in Guelph and is currently the CGA Executive Committe Chairperson as well as an instructior for CGA advanced and general interest courses.

All members, students and guests are invited to join us for this informative evening.  Please join us for coffee and networking at 7:00 pm and our presentation begins at 7:30

Join us at our May monthly meeting to hear Duncan Parker, Jewellery Specialist and Vice President of Dupuis Fine Jewellery Auctioneers present "Fair Market Value" an examination of auction and the establishment of value for a particular market.  Duncan is also Past President of the CGA and is currently CGA Vice President.

Have the midwinter blues?  Come blow them away with a fun filled evening of Gem Trivia.  It's easy to play and we promise not one refractive index in the game.  Do you know gems mentioned in songs? gems in the movies?  silly little facts about gems?  Well then you can play!! Join us and play as a team or keep the win to yourself and play alone.  Prizes for high scores and lower scores too.  Enjoy a relaxed evening of fun and you never know you still might learn something too!!

All members, students and guests are welcome to join this fun evening of GEM TRIVIA!!! Coffee and networking starts at 7 pm and we start play at 7:30.  Come early to claim a seat or table.  Mark your calendar now for this carefree and fun evening!

Kat Michitsch, a graduate of the George Brown College Jewellery Arts Program, is a goldsmith and designer of body jewellery.

With the increasing popularity of body piercing and the growing demand for high quality one-of-a-kind jewellery, also comes the need for traditional craftspeople to understand the logistics behind creating functional, creative body jewellery. This is an introduction to the history of modern body piercing, its roots in jewellery design; materials, placement and technical specifications.

We welcome all our members and guests to join us for this informative evening to learn about this very on trend topic and view some of Kat's designs.  Coffee and networking starts at 7pm and our presentation begins at 7:30 pm

Here's an opportunity to refresh your gemmological instrument skills or just admire your own gemstones using our gemmological equipment.  View your gemstones using our microscopes and refractometers and identify that unknown gem!  Bring in your gemstones to show and tell or swap and sell. 
This is an informal evening for members to share gems from their own collections and admire those of other members. 

All members and students are welcome to attend and if you haven't submitted your 2016 membership renewal, here's a chance to do it in person. 



Nov 2015 - Special Event

Join us as our newest members celebrate the achievement of obtaining their Fellowship and listen to our guest speaker Gregory Fraser.  Our evening will start with a reception and cash bar at 5:30 pm with an opportunity to view our silent auction items before dinner at 6:30 pm.  Our graduation ceremony will follow with the awarding of Preliminary Certificates, Professional Diplomas and Fellowship Certificates and our guest speaker.  Registration is required for this special event evening gala dinner and graduation ceremony.  Please register early as tables fill quickly. 
**NOTE: This special event on Friday November 13 replaces the regular 3rd Wednesday monthly meeting. Registration is required.

Amber D. Scott, MBA, CIPPC, CBP, CAMS

Amber has broad-based financial compliance experience that includes insurance, mutual funds and banking. In addition to being a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) Amber is also a Certified Privacy Professional (CIPP). She also holds a mutual fund sales designation from the Investment Funds Institute of Canada (IFIC) and a first level Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI). She is also a Certified Bitcoin Professional (CBP).

Amber completed her undergraduate studies at the university of Waterloo. Her academic interests have always included law and criminology. As a teaching assistant she assisted in the development of the university’s first applied psychology course on criminal profiling. She has also received an MBA from the University of Aspen.

Speaker: Detective Douglas J. Bedford, York Regional Police, Organized Crime Bureau – Synthetic Drug Team

Detective Doug BEDFORD# 964

Is an 18 year member of York Regional Police at rank of Detective and assigned to the Organized Crime Section, Drugs and Vice Unit, Synthetic Drug Team. Alumni of the Hold Up Squad where he investigated retail, financial, home invasion robberies, and carjackings. He has been the lead investigator on two projects involving South American Organized Crime groups that have targeted the jewellery industry, and assisted other investigations involving South American Organized Crime across Canada.

Detective Bedford and his team and were the recipients of the 1st Annual Jewellers Vigilance Canada, Law Enforcement award of Merit, for the arrest and ongoing prosecution of South American suspects in relation to home invasion robbery in the city of Vaughan in May of 2010.

He sits on the Jewellers Vigilance Canada Board of Directors as a Law Enforcement advisor.

Gemmologist and filmmaker Ken McGrath joins us to talk about the making of his documentary Master of Dreams series that goes behind-the-scenes to investigate legendary jewellery brands.

Geoffrey Ozin, University of Toronto

One of the founding fathers of nanochemistry, Geoffrey Ozin, will discuss the nature and creation of colour. Using the natural diffraction grating of opal as a model, Professor Ozin and his team have developed "a new class of active photonic crystal with the distinctive ability to electrically, mechanically and chemically tune colour from structure."

Professor Ozin will show how the spectacular "play of colour" of precious opal can now be instantly produced and infinitely varied at will.
